I’m Elena!
I am the creative backbone and occasional chaos coordinator behind SoulAtelier Creative Works!
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I developed a lifelong appreciation for music, art, and what I consider the holy trinity… Tex-Mex, BBQ, and a well-poured whiskey.
As the youngest of four sisters, my childhood doubled as a training academy in creative problem-solving and the fine art of proving I could do things myself… even when absolutely no one asked me to. Most of my life lessons arrived via the scenic route — also known as the hard way — which, as it turns out, is still my preferred curriculum. That sisterhood instilled determination, resilience, and a charmingly immovable streak of stubbornness that shows up daily (Sorry, Will.)
And for the record, I’ve never been wrong a day in my life.
I’m a designer and woodworker, creating heirloom-quality pieces by hand using traditional techniques and thoughtfully sourced hardwoods. Every piece is shaped intentionally — by time, patience, and respect for the craft. There are no shortcuts here. Just honest work and a deep appreciation for the stories materials carry with them.
I came to woodworking during a season of life that interrupted everything I thought I understood and demanded a different kind of attention. Grief has a way of rearranging priorities — stripping things down to what actually matters and asking you to sit with discomfort longer than you’d prefer. My workshop became a place where I could show up, focus, and work things out with my hands when words felt inadequate.
Craftsmanship, much like grief, has many wrong ways to approach it — but no single right one. You can rush it. You can force it. You can copy what everyone else is doing and hope for the best. Or you can stay curious, pay attention, and be willing to start over when everything goes completely sideways. Progress isn’t linear. Healing isn’t either. Anyone who tells you otherwise probably hasn’t done much of either.
Woodworking demands presence. Every cut, joint, and finish asks for patience and care. There are no real shortcuts — only trust in the material and respect for the process. In many ways, the work mirrors healing itself: learning to accept imperfections, adjusting when things don’t go as planned, and recognizing that strength often comes from what’s been shaped under pressure.
Much of my process begins the same way — standing in front of stacks of raw hardwood with curiosity instead of a rigid plan, letting the grain, weight, and movement speak first. Some pieces insist on restraint. Others invite boldness. They tell you what they want to be if you’re willing to listen. Healing works much the same way. You can’t force it. You just keep showing up. Forcing a material rarely yields something honest; listening almost always does.
Then comes the sanding — hours of it. The kind of repetitive work that makes you question your life choices and then quietly fixes you anyway. Layer by layer, surfaces soften, details emerge, and imperfections are worked into character. Wood holds memory. It shifts. It bears the marks of where it’s been. I don’t try to erase those stories — I lean into them. The result is work that feels warm, grounded, and quietly confident… with just enough personality to keep things interesting. Somewhere between the dust and the patience, things tend to settle.
SoulAtelier lives at the intersection of function and art — where well-made things are meant to be used, loved, and occasionally knocked around by real life. These are pieces designed to anchor a home, invite conversation, and get better with age.
If my work does anything, I hope it makes people feel something — comfort, connection, a sense of familiarity. Like something that understands patience. Like something that’s been through a few things. Like something that doesn’t need to be perfect to be worth keeping.
And if it makes you smile, or feel a little less alone in the ongoing process of becoming…
well, that’s a pretty great bonus.
